it's an always a part to solve technical problems of computer users.As a new engineer, your job is to assemble and install the desktop, keeping all the system up to date with security fixes and patches, and helping out users to do their job more easily. actually, we can say this is the first step to know about IT Industry.
The job of a desktop engineer is relaxed at times and complex at times. it doesn't mean that you can make it so easy.. ( according to my personal experience make it so hard think different. keep a creativity. keep your daily progress. see the work world around what's happening outside what I am doing. this is a really very first step of IT. A desktop engineer position is divided into three level.
Level 1 a trainee. At this level engineers have to perform some simple jobs like installing an operating system, helping users and other easier jobs like assembling a computer.
Level 2 is of Desktop engineer. They are involved in keeping the computer network up to date with essential patches, perform small tasks on the server and interact with various vendors.
Level 3
is of the System Administrator. They are the lead engineer. They are responsible for everything related to computers and the network. They mainly involve performing tasks on the server, interaction with other department or updating the entire network with critical changes.
In this profession, salary will depend upon your skill, Experience nowadays after doing B-Tech, BE, Computer Engineering they are pursuing this job. its ok to take experience and go further.
if you want to be a desktop engineer, certainly, you should upgrade yourself with new technologies and try to improve your skills.
Following are the roles:
- Addressing user tickets regarding hardware, software, and networking
- Setup desktop computers and peripherals and test network connections.
- Install and test desktop software applications and internet browsers.
- Test computers to ensure proper functioning of computer systems.
- Adhere to policies as per corporate manuals and directives.
- Extend computer support for systems’ software and hardware.
- Maintain computer peripheral devices like printers and resolve associated problems.
Your question has the answer you seek. It is simply that whenever there's an issue with an employee's desktop/laptop then you'll be the first point of contact after a ticket has been raised.
So either you solve it virtually near your system or you'll send someone to look into the issue on site.
